A club of the ladies, by the ladies, for the ladies
The Calcutta Ladies Golf club (CLGC) is one of the oldest ladies golf clubs in the world and the first of its kind to be established, controlled and managed independently by lady golfers on their own separate premises. It has never been in need of any male club members, committee members or office bearers. The club is located in the most picturesque part of the Maidan in the heart of Kolkata (earlier Calcutta). It has a fairly tough 9-hole golf course. The club house is a well furnished, cosy, and comfortable cottage surrounded by lawns, plants, flowerbeds, and tall graceful trees. It is very popular with the members and guests for hosting private parties and get-togethers. There is also a beautiful 18-hole putting area in front of the club house where putting competitions are held regularly. The CLGC and its fairly tough 9-hole golf course have played a leading role in fostering ladies golf in India- particularly in Calcutta- and has produced some outstanding lady golfers. The club also enrolls young girls as junior members and makes arrangements for training them. The CLGC also organizes a large number of golf tournaments through out the year, some open and some for the members only. Some of these are held at the 9-hole CLGC course and the others at the 18-hole RCGC course.
